During the unexpected isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us discovered new hobbies and passions. For me, it was soap making. What started as a simple pastime quickly blossomed into a full-blown obsession. I spent countless hours in my kitchen, crafting and perfecting thousands of bars of soap. Each batch brought me a deeper understanding of the art and science behind soap making.
As I dived into the nitty-gritty of recipe formulation—balancing fatty acids, and picking the perfect additives to get that luscious lather and silky skin feel—I started uncovering some ugly truths about the mass-produced soap industry. And let me tell you, it wasn't pretty.
Mass-produced soaps are often made with ingredients sourced from all over the globe. Sounds fancy, right? But the reality is far less glamorous. Many of these ingredients come from exploitative practices in developing nations, where farmers work under brutal conditions for a pittance. Plus, these ingredients are grown using unsustainable farming methods that wreck the environment and destroy habitats for orangutans and other wildlife.
After these ingredients are harvested, they’re shipped to giant factories where soaps are churned out on a massive scale. This process involves a cocktail of chemicals that are tough on your skin and the planet. So many chemicals, in fact, that many companies can’t even call their products soap. Then, these soaps embark on a long journey, traveling thousands of miles to reach store shelves and, eventually, your bathroom. All this transportation ramps up the carbon footprint, and let’s be real—everyday items like soap shouldn't have to travel the world. They should be local, benefiting the community instead of harming it. Especially products that get washed down the drain!
In my quest for better options, I turned to handmade soaps. But even these weren't much better. Many were shipped from overseas, primarily from the United States, which meant more long-distance travel and higher environmental costs. Sure, they’re a step up from mass-produced soaps, but there had to be a better way.
That’s when the light bulb went off, and Loci Deliciae was born. I took the soap-making skills I’d honed during the pandemic and my corporate business know-how to create a company that prioritizes sustainability and local sourcing. At Loci Deliciae, we’re all about crafting premium soaps using primarily Australian ingredients. By focusing on local resources and suppliers, we support our community, shrink our environmental footprint, and give you high-quality, eco-friendly products.
We’re proud to be an Aussie-owned company that celebrates the beauty and abundance of our land. Our soaps aren’t just about getting clean; they’re about making a positive impact on our community. And guess what? We don’t ship internationally—sorry not sorry—because we believe in keeping our products local, reducing transportation emissions, and making sure you get the freshest soaps possible.
Loci Deliciae is more than just a soap company; it’s a contributor towards better, more sustainable living. Join us on this journey, and see the difference that locally crafted, ethically sourced soaps can make.
